There is a network of small groups which meet in homes around the parish. They are an opportunity to get to know people more deeply, discuss matters of faith together, learn from the Bible, and support one another in prayer and practical ways. There are weekly, fortnightly, daytime and evening groups, meeting on various days of the week. To find out more call Rosemary Aveyard (01527- 577059, rosemaryaveyard@hotmail.co.uk).
Many parents with pre-school children value the opportunity to meet new people during the week. Talk Together offers just that chance, every Tuesday during term time, 12.30-2.00pm in the Parish Centre Lounge. Bring along some food to share, then enjoy getting to know others while the babies and toddlers play together. Contact Philippa Fieldson (0121-445-1269, rob@fieldson.co.uk).
This is a group for men and women who have reached or who are nearing retirement, and who enjoy meeting new people and learning new things. There is a programme of monthly meetings (yes, on Mondays!) where there is usually a guest speaker, as well as a variety of walks, outings and visits, for example to local museums, gardens, cinemas, country houses, etc. For more information, please contact the secretary Pam Bridgewater (0121-445-4764, mail@ashmead.freeserve.co.uk).
Lots of people, both locally and nationally, have found the Alpha Course to be a really good way of learning more about the Christian faith and exploring the place God has in their life. Alpha is a series of ten weekly meetings, either in an evening or afternoon. It looks at issues such as Who is Jesus? Why did he die? What about the resurrection? How can I be sure of my faith? How can I pray? Does God heal? What about the church?
Each session includes a time of input on a particular topic, and then an opportunity to discuss and ask questions. No previous knowledge is assumed - just an interest and willingness to explore together! We hold regular courses: to find out more ring Rob Fieldson (0121-445-1269, rob@fieldson.co.uk).
This is our weekly youth group for Year 9 upwards. It meets on Sunday evenings in the Parish Centre from 7.00-9.00pm. There's games, sports, wii, trips out, time just to chill, and opportunity to talk about issues of faith affecting young people. To find out more, just come along, or speak to our Youth Worker, Beth Atkinson (07896-294255, elizabeth@atkinson55.orangehome.co.uk).
Want to meet others in the local community and are free on a Friday morning? Come along to Coffee Break in the Parish Centre Lounge between 10.30am and noon, and you’ll find a warm welcome, a hot coffee, and delicious biscuits! Open to all, so just drop in when you can, or contact Sheila Gregory on 0121-445-4278.
There is a range of musical inputs into our services, including organ, piano, choir, youth band, orchestra, and other instrumental ensembles. So whatever your interest or skill level, there may well be a place for you to contribute. For further information call our music co-ordinators, Katie Leaver (01527-451172, katieleaver@blueyonder.co.uk) or Wendy Tricklebank (0121-445-2344, jim@m0vgg.eclipse.co.uk).
Many of us lead busy and pressured lives and need a chance, now and again, for space, peace, and time to reflect and pray. We have two opportunities for that this Lent. Lent is patterned on the 40 days that Jesus spent fasting and praying in the wilderness. That’s no doubt too ambitious for us, [...]
